The first turquoise to be imported to the US in 1988 came from the Yungai Temple Mine in Hubei Provence. The history is found in Turquoise in America Part Two 1910-1990.
 
This cabochon weighs 8 carats and measures 1.75cm X 1.5cm X 4mm. It is priced at $20 a carat or $160.It is not treated and is backed. I have assigned a TG of 84 or HG. I cut this cab from rough I bought from Rob Stapp who had purchased some of the early Chinese turquoise. White spot is camera flash.
